Dark Horse Comics will publish The Witcher: Ronin, a manga spinoff of the popular franchise that places the main character, Geralt, in a world inspired by Edo-period Japan. There he must face off with the supernatural creatures of Japanese tradition, yokai (spirits) and oni (demons), as he searches for the mysterious yuki onna, the Lady of Snow.
The manga was created by CD Projekt Red, the publishers of the Witcher video game, and was originally crowdfunded on Kickstarter, where it racked up pledges of €678,036 ($745,609) from 15,469 backers. The Kickstarter edition is a hardcover with the main story arc, three additional short stories, and other bonus material; the Dark Horse edition will be a trade paperback with just the main story and a new cover by Jen Bartel. This story was written by Rafael Jaki of CD Projekt Red, with art by the manga artist Hataya and lettering by Aditya Bidikar. The Witcher: Ronin will be available in comic shops on October 19 and in bookstores on November 1 with an MSRP of $19.99.
