Sydney Sweeney Joins Sony’s Madame Web Opposite Dakota Johnson
Sony‘s Spider-Man related Madame Web has added a new star to the roster, Sydney Sweeney. The film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson from a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless and previous draft by Kerem Sanga.
Sweeney joins Dakota Johnson on the film that is an intriguing one. Madame Web, aka Cassandra Webb, is generally an older woman in the comics. She first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 in 1980 and was created by Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr. A supporting character, she has myasthenia gravis and is connected to a support system resembling a web. Different storylines had her youth restored and myasthenia gravis cured… because comics.
But, the character is clairvoyant and a mutant, who has passed her powers along to Julia Carpenter when she was attacked and killed.
It’s unknown who Sweeney is playing and it’s generally thought that Johnson would be playing Web… but which version? Webb is also the grandmother of the fourth Spider-Woman, Charlotte Witter.
The film joins the successful Sony Spider-Verse which of course has the main Spider-Man films but also two Venom films and the upcoming film featuring Kraven the Hunter.
