Nonprofit Game Pathways Seeks Gaming Diversity

Game Pathways is a new non-profit organization formed by tabletop industry professionals for the purpose of expanding diversity and minority representation in game publishing.

The group hopes to encourage students to consider careers in game publishing through educational outreach programs.  Its 2022 Learning Program will be offered to high schools students in the Las Angeles area on October 7-8.  Held on the UCLA campus, the event will give students the opportunity to interact with tabletop professionals and practice fundamental game design skills.  As of this writing, the program has recruited Victoria Cana (Wizards of the Coast, Cat Quartet Games, Riot Games), Damon Saddler (Mattel), and Isaac Vega (Plaid Hat Games, Rose Gauntlet Entertainment) for the October event.

The organization will also work with board game publishers who are looking to engage with historically under-represented groups in the hobby.  They intend to help publishers recruit applicants from those groups as well as provide resources for publishers that want to develop more inclusive products and marketing.  Game Pathways also plans to provide grants and scholarships for minority game designers.

Currently, the organization has received sponsorships from Brotherwise Games, Stonemaier Games, Stoneblade Entertainment, Colorway Game Labs, Druid City Games, and Rose Gauntlet Entertainment.
