Dark Horse Comics and Kevin Smith’s Secret Stash Press are teaming up to produce a new line of comics that will launch in Fall 2022. Smith himself will write the first two series, but he plans to include other creators as well.
The first two series will be Masquerade, an eight-issue limited series featuring a masked avenger who is new to the business and still learning the ropes, and Quick Stops, an ongoing anthology featuring characters from Smith’s View Askewniverse movies, including Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
Smith, who owns the comic shop Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, has written a number of comics in the past, including Batman: The Widening Gyre and a Green Hornet series based on an unproduced screenplay (see “Preview: ‘Green Hornet Omnibus’ Vol. 1 TP”). He is the producer of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which started streaming on Netflix last year, and he also co-created a prequel comic for that series (see “Kevin Smith and Rob David Pen the Story for ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ #1”).
“2022 marks the 25th anniversary of my comic book store, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash,” Smith said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “And after a quarter century of selling comics, the Secret Stash is going to MAKE our own comics! Following the recipe written by Mike Richardson eons ago when he turned his comic shop into a legendary comic book publisher, the Secret Stash is ready to take the next step in its evolution. I’m ecstatic for Secret Stash Press to become a part of the Dark Horse multimedia empire and I hope our books will bring new customers into comic shops and delight regular readers from all around the world.”
