Learn more about the new playable Melee Defender Trevenant in Pokémon UNITE

Pokémon UNITE is continuing to add new content, including new playable characters and in-game items, on a regular basis. Read on below to learn more:

TREVENANT CREATES CREEPY CURSES IN POKÉMON UNITE

Curse the competition in Pokémon UNITE with Trevenant, now available to join your team. This Pokémon is a Melee Defender, and it’s ready to unleash spectral shields, good old-fashioned slapping, and terrifying curses in order to win. Trevenant begins each match as Phantump, and it will evolve into Trevenant at Lv. 5.

Trevenant’s basic attack becomes boosted with every third attack, dealing increased damage to opposing Pokémon and restoring Trevenant’s HP when it hits. Additionally, Trevenant’s Natural Cure Ability triggers a continuous HP recovery effect when Trevenant’s HP is low. This HP recovery effect also reduces the cooldown period for Trevenant’s moves. When Natural Cure’s HP recovery effect ends, there is a delay before Natural Cure can activate again. Fortunately, this delay is reduced every time one of Trevenant’s moves hits an opposing Pokémon.

TREVENANT’S MOVES

At Lv. 1 and Lv. 3 , Phantump can learn Will-O-Wisp and Branch Poke. When using Will-O-Wisp, Phantump shoots sinister flames that deal damage to opposing Pokémon they hit and leave them burned for a short time. When Phantump uses Branch Poke, it delivers a jab in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon and decreasing their movement speed for a short time when it hits.

At Lv. 5 , when Phantump evolves into Trevenant, Will-O-Wisp can be upgraded into one of two moves. When delivering the first of the two moves—Wood Hammer—Trevenant pulls back its arms and attacks, damaging opposing Pokémon directly in front of it and pulling them toward itself. If this attack deals damage to at least one opposing Pokémon, Trevenant can then follow up this attack by slamming down a giant wooden hammer, dealing damage to any Pokémon it hits and leaving them unable to act for a short time. Be cautious about using Wood Hammer too much, however, for every time this move is used, it consumes a set amount of Trevenant’s HP. When Wood Hammer is upgraded, the follow-up attack also decreases the damage dealt by opposing Pokémon it hits for a short time.

The other move Trevenant can learn, Curse, allows the Pokémon to exchange a portion of its HP to create a cursed zone. Any opposing Pokémon caught in this cursed zone takes damage over time and suffers from decreased movement speed. The lower Trevenant’s HP, the more the opposing Pokémon’s movement speed is decreased. While using Curse, Trevenant stores curse power every time it deals or takes damage, and it can release this power to deal additional damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect. If this curse power is at maximum when it’s released, it will also reset the cooldown periods for Trevenant’s other moves. When Curse is upgraded, its area of effect is increased.

At Lv. 7 , Branch Poke can also be upgraded into one of two moves. The first of these moves, Horn Leech, causes Trevenant to charge forward, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in its path and shoving them as it charges. When Trevenant is finished charging, any opposing Pokémon that it shoved is dealt additional damage and then thrown. This move also restores Trevenant’s HP when Trevenant collides with an opposing Pokémon while it’s charging, and the lower Trevenant’s remaining HP is, the more HP is recovered. After Trevenant uses Horn Leech, its next three basic attacks deal increased damage and reduce Horn Leech’s cooldown when they hit. Horn Leech can be upgraded to increase Trevenant’s movement speed for a short time after the move ends.

Trevenant’s other move option, Pain Split, creates a link that tethers Trevenant to a selected opposing Pokémon. As long as the link holds, Trevenant redirects a portion of the damage it takes to the linked opposing Pokémon. As Trevenant’s HP gets lower, a greater percentage of incoming damage is redirected to the linked opposing Pokémon. Furthermore, if Trevenant’s percentage of remaining HP is lower than the linked Pokémon’s, Pain Split continuously recovers Trevenant’s HP and deals damage over time to the linked Pokémon. However, the link will disappear if Trevenant is too far from the linked Pokémon. Pain Split also increases Trevenant’s movement speed for a short time, and it can also be upgraded to increase the length of time that the link remains active.

TREVENANT’S UNITE MOVE, PHANTOM FOREST

Hit the opposition with a curse they won’t be able to shake off with Trevenant’s Unite Move, Phantom Forest, which it learns at Lv. 9 . With this attack, Trevenant creates a spectacularly creepy cursed forest, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect, throwing them, and decreasing their movement speed for a short time. For a brief period after the attack is deployed, the basic attacks of all allied Pokémon deal increased damage to opposing Pokémon hit by Phantom Forest. Trevenant also receives a shield when this Unite Move hits an opposing Pokémon, with the shield getting stronger with each opposing Pokémon hit. While Trevenant is under the shield’s protection, HP recovery effects applied to Trevenant are strengthened.
