Following a slew of classic games getting re-released like Resident Evil 2, Doom, and Skyrim Anniversary Edition, this November marked the official release of the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes. In celebration of this, The Pokémon Company has partnered with Nintendo to release a new limited edition Nintendo Switch Lite which showcases two legendary Pokémon: Dialga and Palkia.
A Long-Overdue Treat for Pokefans
The Nintendo Switch Lite and Pokémon edition was released on November 5th, days ahead of the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl release on the 19th. While staying faithful to the essence of the first two Pokémon games, the remakes feature gameplay improvements that will enhance the experience for old and new gamers alike. Some of the most notable updates that make the games more immersive and less prone to hiccups are the auto-save feature, shared party experience points, customizable trainer outfits and Poke Balls, and new Poketch applications that allow trainers to maximize their Pokémon’s’ growth.
Aside from these modernizations, other in-game details that made the games a hit when they were originally released in 2006 have been retained. These include the Pokémon contest and the much-loved Grand Underground. In the improved graphics of the remake, the different terrain of the Sinnoh region is given more depth and dimension. By doing so, the games’ developers are certain that these classic games will be able to provide new elements that will excite players.
A Modern DS Homage
Considering that the original games were released on the Nintendo DS, it’s only fitting that the 2021 Pokémon Diamond and Pearl is designed to be optimized for the Nintendo Switch., too. Aside from this, long-time fans have also noted that even the design of the Nintendo Switch Lite partnership offers a DS throwback. Much like the special edition Nintendo DS Lite design that was released more than a decade ago, the new design also has a black base color with silver and gold decals. The decals are positioned on the back of the Switch and features Palkia and Dialga. The similarities between the two consoles end there, though. The Switch Lite has more efficient PCBs with better power integrity. This allows the newer console to support the more demanding processing and graphical functions of modern games. In fact, the model supports speeds that are 80x faster, almost 4x more battery power, and the possibility of an external memory slot.
The future of Nintendo Switch consoles
Since Nintendo first released the Switch in 2017 it has become one of the most popular and lucrative consoles available. In 2019, they released the lower-cost Switch Lite. More recently, however, Nintendo introduced the Nintendo Switch OLED. The OLED which features the largest screen of the three also has unbeatable picture quality that provides crisper visuals with higher contrast. This latest model is also said to use less power than an LED screen which can mean more game time. With the highly-visual Pokémon Legends: Arceus just around the corner, the OLED and Dialga/Palkia Limited Edition Switches could not come at a better time.
