Have I mentioned how much I love Jedi: Fallen Order? I have, haven’t I? I would love more figures of the main characters and antagonists in the Black Series, but in the meantime I’m happy to pick up some of the unique troop builder figures that Hasbro distributes through Gamestop’s Gaming Greats line. Let’s take a look at the Flametrooper from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order!
The Flametrooper comes in the newer style Black Series box with the slanted edge and character painting on the side. The newer gaming greats figures line up and make a mural, but I never keep the boxes (except for my Rebels figures), so I can’t show that off.
The figure comes with a removeable pack and flamethrower weapon. The pack has a flexible tube attached that can be attached to the handle of the flamethrower. It stays in there pretty well and doesn’t hinder movement too much. The accessories have fairly sharp sculpting and look on-model, I just wish he came with a flame effect. I was kind of expecting one after the Flametrooper release from The Mandalorian got one, but nope.
The sculpting on this figure also matches the game model well even though it re-uses quite a bit of the old Snowtrooper figure, the new head, pack, lower legs and forearms work really well to transform him from snow to flame. I do enjoy how the design work here references the original McQuarrie Snowtrooper concept art.
The articulation is typical Black Series fare, however the head doesn’t get a lot of movement due to the design of the helmet and mask and it mostly swivels, but can tilt up slightly. The leg movement is somewhat hindered by the plastic skirt/belt combo, especially backward leg movement, but I feel like the skirt is slightly softer than the Snow Trooper and I was able to pull off a halfway decent kneel. The swivel hinge on the right hand is up/down, which I like for guys with rifles, but the range of motion is not great. The trooper has:
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles
- Double hinged knees
- Ball and socket head and mid-torso
- Swivel thighs
Paint is minimal on this guy, but what is there is fairly clean. I did notice he’s missing a little detail around the mask area, specifically some black marks underneath the eyes and where the mask meets the “cloth” part of the mask. I do like the mix of white and off-white plastics to differentiate between the armor and clothing and I like how it is a bit more subtle than what we saw on the Snowtrooper. Overall, I feel like he could use a little weathering, especially around the face mask to bring out that nice sculpted detail.
Overall this is a fairly slick figure with clever and effective re-use that adds a nice variety to your trooper displays. It’s just a shame with the higher markup and re-use cost savings Hasbro didn’t add a flame effect.
