All-American Comics v1 #16, 1940 – A meteor lands in remote China, cracking open and revealing a mysterious green flame. It tells the natives its intentions, including endowing great power in the future. The meteorite’s metals are forged into a lamp at first, then later into a lantern. Decades later, a young engineer survives a competitor’s deadly sabotage. Alan Scott, now in possession of the lantern, fashions a ring from it that gives him strange new powers. Calling himself Green Lantern, he vows to fight evil. This convoluted Bill Finger story was drawn by Martin Nodell.
